The Geneva Theatre Guild Youth Theatre is a summer theatre program for Finger Lakes area students entering fifth grade through graduating high school seniors.

2018 Summer Show

SHR-youth

This summer the Geneva Theatre Guild Youth Theatre presented a double feature of Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. and Schoolhouse Rock Live Too! This year’s productions were directed by Jennifer Mitchell and Nicholas Goodman.

The show was present July 27th-29th in the Geneva High School auditorium. The audiences loved this nostalgic throwback to the morning cartoons of the 1970s.

About the Youth Theatre

The goals of the Youth Theatre are to provide local youth with an opportunity to be involved in any and all aspects of the production of theatre; to provide the community with theatre that is both artistically and educationally challenging; to help local youth develop a better understanding of the potential of theatre for fostering human development, while also helping them understand the technical aspects of theatre; and to use theatre as a means of developing a sense of community. For many years now the Geneva Theatre Guild Youth Theatre has been very fortunate to receive a grant from the Wyckoff Family Foundation. Also in grants, in 2008, GTGYT was awarded a generous grant from the J.M. McDonald Foundation, located in Evergreen, Colorado. The grant was given in support of our summer musical as well as the Curvin Playground Players.

Each summer the Youth Theatre invites all area youth to take part in a production staged in late July or early August. All interested students are given a part in the production. Students also have the opportunity to work on scenery, lighting, make-up, or other production areas under the guidance of adult volunteers.

In 2013 Youth Theatre again held Dramatic Inventions instead of the summer musical. Dramatic Inventions was four weeks of intense theatrical endeavors including drama, voice, and dance. It was available to students in 3rd-12th grades. Friday’s Guest professions were invited to hold workshops with the participants.¬† The four week program culminated in a night of improv, song and dance.

If you would like to propose a production for the Youth Theater show, click over to our “Get Involved” section; you’ll find helpful information in the “Propose/Direct” and “Forms” sections.

The Youth Theatre is a community-based program that depends on the support of individuals, local businesses and the cooperation of the Geneva City School District in providing programs open to all area youth free of charge.
