Looking to Direct?

The Geneva Theatre Guild Season Planning Committee are looking for proposals to make up the next season’s fare. All proposals must include a script or if that is not available a description of the play, the director’s vision for the show, any production staff or other creative elements attached to the show and preliminary budget. To help you create a proposal, we have created a Geneva Theatre Guild Proposal Form to fill out and send in. All submissions must be sent to Geneva Theatre Guild P.O. Box 424, Geneva, NY 14456 or genevatheatreguild@gmail.com. The Planning Committee looks for proposals from area directors for the following shows:

  • A Dinner Theatre production, play or small musical to be performed in either the spring, fall or winter. Deadline for proposals: August 17th

  • A Summer Musical to be performed in July or early August at the Smith Opera House. Deadline for proposals: August 17th

  • Playwrights/Playreadings*: We look for original scripts, (no more than two per writer)a, with a running time of 30 minutes or under. Submit 4 copies of each play. Playwrights/Playreadings is usually performed in early spring at an intimate venue in Geneva. Deadline for proposals: March 1st

  • A Youth Theatre production during the summer months, usually a musical. Deadline for proposals: February 1


How to submit your play to Playwrights/Playreadings:

1. Limit – no more than two submissions per playwright
2. Submissions must be typed, one side of the page only, easy to read, with at least one inch margins and free of any stray markings.
3. Submissions must have two title pages: One with the title of the play only and one with the title of the play, playwright’s name, address, phone number, email address and an approximate running time for the play.
4. Include a brief synopsis of the plot, setting and a list of the characters before the first page of dialogue.
5. All pages must be numbered, starting with the first page of dialogue as page one.
6. If you are submitting your script in hard copy, please include four copies.
7. If mailed, submissions should be unbound and in a folder.
8. If you wish your submission returned, please include a SASE with sufficient postage.
All submissions which meet the guidelines are given blind readings by two selection committees. Scripts are rated by established criteria. The plays with the highest scores move on to a final committee who read the plays aloud as a group. All final plays are discussed and then the decision on which plays will be selected for staged readings is made. At no time prior to the final selection does any committee member know the identity of the playwright.
